RECENT WORK AND MUSINGS
Candles. It’s more than just about the scents…but that doesn’t hurt. One of the most interesting things I ever learned was in my first college class ever. It was Camping, and it was for my gym credit. We (the class) spent two days at the Laurentian Environmental Center in Britt, Minnesota. One of out “lessons” […]
Whether we accept the weather or not, it’s winter. And in Minnesota, that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. What does it mean to me? There’s five things that say “Minnesota Winter” to me: 1.) SNOWY PINES I am so incredibly enchanted with snowy pines. There is something about […]
In a major accomplishment, I have completed one of my goals already in my November’s First Things First: I have selected my wrapping paper for Hanukkah and Christmas this year. Now the shopping shall commence! I don’t have too many opinions when it comes to shopping, except to do it well (gifting is my love […]
I am sure we have all played that game “Never have I ever…” Akin to Truth and Dare, it is meant to uncover the most scandalous, salacious, juicy tidbits that we bury deep inside. While I am neither exceptionally scandalous nor juicy, there are some things I have never, ever done that might surprise you, […]
It is a common question over coffee or a beer: What do you personally want to accomplish with wedding photography, Kayla? What are your photography goals? It’s a fair question. My “why” for photography is very clear: I want to provide classy, sassy, adventurous, elegant brides and grooms with romantic and timeless photos that capture […]
Oh, YouTube. If there was every a time suck, it is you. Your ability to take thirty, forty, one hundred minutes from our lives is amazing and unmatched. For this professional procrastination, this is the largest blessing and biggest curse. I find myself way too often down the digital rabbit hole, clicking one video after […]
Podcasts were a major revelation for this commuter. Being that every school day I am on the road for one and a half hours and then on wedding days I may be booking it five and a half hours in any direction, I have a lot of windshield time. Since I am on the road and unable to do much else, I like to fill my time with podcasts rather than just music (although there is plenty of that, too).
I recently bought one of Emily Ley’s Simplified Planner (well, two, as they have also come out with a Teacher Planner). I do not usually buy planners; for the last ten years, I have made my own planners that were tailored to my specific organizational needs. Time has become of the essence, however, so I […]
BEHIND THE LENS
At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.
After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
