A + J: A RUSTIC CHIC WISCONSIN BARN WEDDING

Like much of the midwest, a Wisconsin summer is polka-dotted with assorted community festivals and events; it’s hard to find a weekend that does not have something going on. Local food, vendors, and music are all a part of the scene, and there is always something for everyone and every taste.

At one particular Bayfield festival one summer, new dad Brett heard a song by a local artist that hit his heart. “That song,” he thought, as the sound of “I Believe In You” by Bill Isles danced in the air, “will be the song that I shared with Allie on her wedding day.” He picked up a copy of that CD, holding onto it for over twenty years. He brought it along with him to Pine Brook Farm in Spooner, Wisconsin, presented it to the DJ, and indeed shared this dance (and a few tears) with his daughter.

Some might say that these two defied all odds with their wedding, but others (like anyone who has met these two) would be more inclined to say that they were meant to be, and nothing was going to stand in their way. After friendship, they became high school sweethearts in a tenth grade biology class. After surviving teenage love, they embarked on a long-distance relationship as Josh headed to upstate New York to attend the prestigious and honorable West Point while Allie stayed in the Chicago area to pursue an equally honorable nursing career. As graduation loomed, they decided on forever, and that forever started on July 3, 2021 at the Pine Brook Farm in Spooner, Wisconsin.

Family was very important to Allie and Josh when it came to their wedding. They hosted their celebration in their summer vacation area, a space and place important to the families. Having first looks with not only her future husband but also her bridesmaids (which included her two sisters) and her father. Her favors were delightful jars of jam that were made with her grandmother, as a thank you for “jammin’” with them. Even the floral arrangements were a family affair, but when the family business is flowers, that might be expected.

After the dinner, dancing, and delicious brownies, the newlyweds will step into their next chapter, which includes a little movement before settling in Germany next winter. Congratulations, you two! It was so much fun and a tremendous honor to be able to celebrate this day with you!

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
