One of the first things you might do once you get engaged is smile for days. Then you might pick a date. This could be followed by finding vendors, which might include a photographer who includes an engagement session in your experience.
There are lots of reasons why you would be so excited for this session, but it will raise a few questions and concerns. One of the major ones? What in the world do I wear?
When my clients select the complimentary engagement session as their booking gift, I tell each one the same three things when it comes to deciding what to wear to an engagement session:
- TRY TO HAVE ONE FANCY AND ONE CASUAL OUTFIT. The images from your engagement session will be used for your save the dates and/or invitation, so it is nice to have one outfit with a greater “Wowza!” factor, such as a nice dress like this one from Amazon or a nice suit/dress shirt with slacks and tie. After a few more formal photographs, you could switch into something a bit more casual, such as a blouse/cardigan or pullover sweater.
- TIME PERMITTING, MAYBE SNEAK IN ONE FUN OUTFIT. I’m talking Vikings/Packers jerseys, collegiate sweaters, something like that. Five to ten minutes at the end of the session is enough to get these novelty shots in so you have them to
- WHATEVER YOU DO, BE YOU. Back in the day, the biggest opinions about what you should (and should not) do came from the moms. These days, there’s a ton of input from all angles about how Styled Me Prettied you should be and what you need to do to be Pinteresting. These are your photos, your memories, your story. You only need to be you. Nothing more (because, honey, that is more than enough).
So don’t stress about your engagement session–just have fun!
