Five years ago on November 21, Ari’s world changed when she began a relationship with a funny, kind guy named Tony (and trust me when the laughs and love was reciprocated for him by her vibrant personality). When they became engaged, then, it made perfect sense that their wedding day share the same date as the start date of the love they shared. November 21, 2020, would be the day they say “I do” no matter what.
And they meant it.
As the world changed around them in 2020, and as one by one their wedding plans fell like dominoes, they kept their focus on what mattered most: The heart and humor of their life together. The generous guest list, the Greysolon Ballroom, the lakeside bride and groom portraits, all lost to love in the time of coronavirus. But these two—who were optimistic in the face no optimism—were determined to make their date work.
Spoiler alert: They did. In doing so, they proved that sometimes Plan B is just as magical as Plan A.
A Wisconsin state park (Amnicon Falls State Park), complete with epic pines and roaring waterfalls, became the new venue, and the most intimate collection of friend and family joined in on the celebration. Brian, Ari’s father, still served as the officiant (complete with priestly robes–which served initially as a joke–but Dad still got them, just in case). To add an extra layer of intimacy, Ari opted to not have a first look (doable with a sweet elopement like this), and instead had both her dad and Tony turned once she came up over the hill. Their smiles say everything, and were the most wonderful welcomes to their riverside ceremony.
Congratulations, Mr. + Mrs. Mork! Thank you for letting me be a part of your big day and your state park elopement! I can’t wait to celebrate again come May!
