If my office could talk…it would tell some doozies.
In the last decade, I have started up two businesses within these four walls. This space knows all my secrets. It would mention the time I fell asleep while editing on my daybed and woke up with my laptop under my pillow (I’m just thankful it didn’t fall onto the floor).
It would tell about all the times I’ve sat on the phone with brides as we went through all the emotions about their big days. Tears of joy, laughter, even anger. They’ve all been shed before those walls.
It would tell you about every big idea and lightbulb moment I’ve had in almost ten years of entrepreneurial experience…and it would know how excited I have been to bring every one of them to you to make your lives easier/brighter/better.
But it would have more to say about the wedding industry as a whole.
It would say that, like with every other industry, you only need to pay for what you need. There are always going to be voices telling your “BUY THIS!” or “YOU NEED THAT!” You only need what you know you need. Nothing more, nothing less.
My office would also like to remind brides and grooms that the only standard that matters is theirs. Between the blogs, magazines, and social media accounts trying to tell you otherwise, your wedding is beautiful because it is YOURS. Don’t have calligraphed hymalayian salt shot glasses for your placecards? That’s fine. Do you have Chex Mix or Puppy Chow in cello bags that you made and packaged with mom, grandma, bridesmaids, or friends, and you had a great evening spent laughing about just how much you actually made? That sounds something much better than anything that only existed to be Style Me Prettied. You are doing this for you, not strangers on the internet. My office says remember that.
My office would definitely say that one more time for the couples in the back: This. Is. Your. Day. Only. Your. Memories. Matter.
