What better way to say cheers to your marriage than with a signature cocktail?

This relatively new idea is quickly becoming commonplace amongst cocktail hours everywhere. It gives a unique flare to socializing and lets your guests know a little more about you and your tastes. But why? When there is a fully stocked bar right there, why have a signature drink?

1. IT TAKES THE PRESSURE OFF HAVING AN OPEN BAR

Oftentimes, signature cocktails are complimentary during the time between the ceremony and reception. Offering a little libation–even if it is one chosen for guests–is a nice gesture that makes an open bar a little more palatable during the dance.

2. IT CAN BE MADE IN BIG BATCHES

If you are DIY-ing it a bit, having a signature cocktail means it can be like a punch: You can whip it up en masse to be sure it is done ahead of time. If you are hosting your wedding at a private residence and do not wish to hire a bartender, having vats of your drink of choice ready to go will make your party that much more fun for all (including yourself).  The Knot has a few fantastic suggestions of drinks that are delish and can be made in bulk.

3. ADDS ANOTHER LEVEL TO THE THEME

If you have a specific vibe you are going for when it comes to your wedding, having a signature cocktail can add to that. Flavors, colors, you name it–having a beverage made just for you will only help you carry that feeling farther into your wedding plans.

4. YOU MAKE SURE YOU CAN WET YOUR WHISTLE

Not all bars are created equal, and not all are stocked the exact same way. Having a signature drink guarantees you will have what you enjoy. Sounds selfish, yes, but trust me: When you love a good Moscow Mule, you’ll be happy knowing there is one there for you (nothing is worse than being told “sorry, we can’t make that.” I know this from experience…)

No, your drink might not be for everyone, but everyone can appreciate one extra layer of personalization to their wedding day.

What would your signature drink be?

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
