One of my favorite things about wedding photography is seeing how couples take the conventions of marriage and make them their own. The interpretation of traditions so often tell the story.
Sony asked Tom to marry her. That sums up this couple nicely.
She knew he would be a bit nervous to propose, so she made it easier on him. With a gorgeous band from Etsy, she got down on one knee while out on a boat ride and popped the question. He said yes (and he even wore the ring from that point on).
That was just one of the sweet stories these two shared during the couple of hours we all spent together celebrating their elopement at Gunflint Lodge. Even the act of eloping fit these two perfectly: No fuss, no muss. Just the two of them, their fur baby Shelby, and a couple of witnesses (Tom’s brother Joe and his wife, Rita). They are the textbook example of chill, and are accurately the dictionary definition of sentimental.
A particular sweet moment from their ceremony was during the ring exchange. Sony teared up as she presented again the ring she used during her proposal to Tom, who said “I do” this time.
Thank you for letting me celebrate with you, Sony + Tom!
