When Niki first logged onto the dating app, she wasn’t looking for something serious. That was the last thing on her mind. We were still deep into the pandemic, after all, so it wasn’t the time to commit to anything or anyone. A chat here, a flirt there, that’s it. Nothing much more, nothing less.
That’s good, because she found Joseph, who wasn’t exactly in the country at the time. Nevertheless, they still kept in contact. He would be eventually be back stateside, however, and he would need a place to stay, and Niki was in need of a new roommate…

The beautiful thing about life is we never, ever truly know what’s coming. We can do our best to plan and prep, but yet we are able to be surprised by what we didn’t even know we need. New job, new city, new loves. Even a fresh layer of snow can be a unexpected gift, even in the middle of April.
The snow wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t the plan, but it sure was beautiful. Not as beautiful as her gorgeous salt and pepper diamond or their relationship, but it was still an unexpected gift.
