Shaw Florist is an institution in Grand Rapids. They have been covering the town and surrounding areas with their unique brand of greenery and floral arrangements since 1949. Based on my work with them, they are just as classic now as they were way back when.
I have always been partial to Shaw’s. Having been around since 1949, they are clearly iconic to Grand Rapids. Even more than that, their business occupies a space in the Old Pokegama Hotel Building, which has been on GR’s main street since 1892.
One scroll through Shaw Florists’ wedding offerings demonstrates their commitment to timeless arrangements. Roses, lilies, Gerber daisies, even the super-modern and trendy succulents have always found their way into recent bridal bouquets, thanks to their talented designers. The artists at Shaw’s also have a keen eye for detail, which does not go unnoticed. From lace to burlap to satin ribbon to twine, their ability to pair these textures with florals adds just another layer of elegance to their creations. I recently photographed a wedding where the boutonnieres were wound together with twine.
The bride’s bouquet from that same wedding was tied with a beautiful blue ribbon that blew in the breeze. It was classic and gorgeous.
Need more than just flowers? Forgot to get your bridesmaids something? Shaw’s also has a pretty decent gift department as well. Abdullah Candy, MakennaDel Candles and lotions, and wooden signs. These are just a quick list of some of the items available to pair with your floral purchase.
Anyone planning a wedding in Grand Rapids or the surrounding areas (Cohasset, Coleraine, Bovey, Marble, and Taconite) should chat flora with the lovelies at Shaw Florist. Visit them in the historic Old Pokegama Hotel Building in Downton Grand Rapids, online at their website, or on social media on Facebook.
