When Sunday morning rolled around, it was dark and dreary. The sky looked angry, and was spitting snow as if to say “Don’t mess with me—no photographs today.” When Kaylin confirmed that she still wanted to go through with her engagement session, however, the clouds parted as if to smile, and the warming sun popped through as if to say “Cheese!”
Just like these two, this day and this session were absolutely meant to be.
Despite the early impression, it became the perfect day for Kaylin and Daniel, who joined me in Grand Rapids and along the Mississippi River for their late winter engagement session. Even though there was still a chill in the air, it was no match for these two (even though I’m sure we are all OK with the fact that their June wedding will be warmer).
Among the ducks and geese that have already made their return to the open rapids of the Mighty Mississip at the Pokegama Dam, the three of us made our way through the snow and the trees. As we walked, we talked as if we were longtime friends. We chatted about home, with Kaylin growing up around here on the Iron Range of Minnesota and Daniel, who spent much time in California, is now fully content at home on here on the Range. We chatted about their adorable fur babies, and we about school and life.
What was amazing from my side of the camera as we chatted, however, was how in tune these two were with each other. Kaylin and Daniel are so real—they laugh, they kid, they joke, and they show love in a way that was just so authentic—which always makes for the best photos. What I saw on this day makes me beyond excited for their wedding day!
