Let’s make one thing clear: Bemidji is a cool city. Yes, Duluth (my college town) likes to make that claim, too, but this other collegeville 140 miles west is also unique and can offer much to any couple looking to get married within its limits. One of those offerings is a former warehouse-turned collective art space that moonlights as a wedding venue on weekends. We’re talking about the RailRiver Folk School.
The thought bubble that became RailRiver Folk School started in 2010 with “a vision to create a locally owned, sustainable community event and education hub”in Bemidji. The minds doing the brainstorming, Saul and Jessica Saucedo and Rochelles Carpenter, wanted to gather artisans, farmers, organizations to teach skills that would focus on sustainable living. In 2012, the trio purchased the old warehouse at 303 Rail Road Street NW, and began the renovation on what would become a cool, unique wedding venue.
There is a lot that can come with a RailRiver wedding. When a couple secures the space for their event, they will receive day-prior set up time, which means no rushing the morning of. They will also receive access to the PA system. They are granted the entire grounds, which includes lakeshore on Lake Irving and a small wooden patch. That nature paired with the rustic-industrial vibe of the building allows for all wedding styles to find their photographic voice on this property.
