FIVE 2024 WEDDING TRENDS

January 5, 2024

It’s hard to believe that 2024 is already here…which means it is time to talk about 2024 wedding trends. A

LIVE ARTISTS ARE IN…PHOTO BOOTHS ARE OUT

Remember when photo booths were all the rage? They’re still fun, for sure. But what’s really coming into its own is the live artists at your celebration. Image the classiest cocktail hour with someone illustrating your guests in real time? Not only is it the greatest entertainment, but also the coolest favorite (who needs thematically foiled Hershey Kisses, anyway?). I expect to see more of this wedding vendor in 2024. (Want a good recommendation? Maria Ahrens is PHENOMENAL.

PEARLS ARE (STILL) IN…BLING IS OUT

I said last year that one trend I was stoked for in 2023 was the changeover from the silver, shiny, bold bling to the soft and sweet pearl vibe. The couples I photographed this past year did not disappoint when it came to the opalescent sheen. I expect this to continue as a 2024 wedding trend.

SLEEVES ARE IN…STRAPLESS IS OUT

I saw so many gorgeous wedding dresses and gowns with beautiful sleeves this year–more than any year before. I believe one of the 2024 wedding trends we will see across the industry this year. I attribute this to recent celebrity weddings (did you see Kat Denning’s wedding dress???), so I expect and am excited to photograph that detail this year.

BEING PRESENT IS IN…LIVE STREAMING IS OUT

I can’t tell you the last time I saw a wedding live streamed. I think that phase of the wedding world has passed. It was a wonderful amenity to be able to include in the pandemic years, but now, it’s not something too many will likely waste infrastructure and time on in 2024.

FIRST LOOKS ARE (MOSTLY) IN…NO LOOKS ARE ON THEIR WAY FROM OUT TO IN

Believe it or not, I am OK with this. I am on Team First Look, as I know how efficient it allows us to be and we can make the most of your photography time when you have a first look. We can get so many photos done before your ceremony, which is the big sale of a first look (it also gives you a little privacy on your very busy day). However, some couples are truly living in their wedding moments and book enough time to savor each and every minute and thereby include a no-look or a first touch. While I don’t believe that first looks will ever be totally out (they are the new tradition), I think that we will keep seeing more of the no-look and first touches as couples continue to write their own rules for their day.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
