You’ve said your vows. You’ve had your first married kiss. You’re wearing a shiny new ring.

Now it is time to P A R T Y !

The cocktail hour is that magical time between the ceremony and dinner of your wedding celebration where everyone–including you–can relax and enjoy the reason for this day. Sip a few drink, snack on a few hors dourves, and visit with the friends and family that have come together to honor your love story. It is a wonderful time of your wedding day.

It can also seem a little….long, but there are ways to glow up your cocktail hour with a little entertainment! Yes, it is becoming commonplace to offer some form of fun during this time meant for letting a little loose. Looking for ideas? Here’s a few ideas that KLP Couples have included into their wedding day:

PHOTOBOOTH

Becoming ever-more common (and always a blast) is the photobooth. There are now so many options for this–from the traditional legit booths to stands (like the one I offer complimentary to my couples), it is very easy to find a way to put the fun in functional–and have the photographic evidence to prove it.

YARD GAMES

Cornhole, Giant Jenga, Ladder Golf. If you have the space at your reception site, this is an easy way to add a little something to do to your cocktail hour. There is minimal investment (there’s a good chance you either have these yourself or know someone from whom you could borrow a set). These are also commonplace in our Minnesota culture that you won’t have to worry about explaining too many rules–people can grab their beverage and play away!

INTERACTIVE GUEST BOOK

This could tie into the photobooth, or it can be something totally different. An interactive guest book is anything that allows your guests to say “I was here!” while letting them participate in your love story. A very cool interactive guest book idea is where quests write a date night idea on a die that the couple can use later on in their marriage. Having guest doodle and sign fabric squares that can later become a quilt is even a nice way to get your guests involved and have a little fun during your cocktail hour.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
