The wedding party as we know it is far from a new idea. Groomsmen and bridesmaids have been a staple of wedding celebration for quite some time. Even going all the way back to the times of the Torah/Old Testament there were wedding parties; Leah and Rachel had their own maids when they married Jacob (thankfully, polygamy has fallen out of favor along with trading daughters for labor).
Over time, the tradition of wedding parties has evolved–and continues to do so. While the entire day is yours and open for self expression, this part of your day is a great place to really be unique and do things your own way. Currently, there are three trends that I am loving that are easy ways to customize your wedding party’s experience.
- THE WEDDING PARTY PROPOSAL
Gifting is my love language, so this recent trend of sending a little something to the lovelies you wish to have by your side on your big day. It adds another dimension to your wedding experience, and I am here for it. Always.
- CREATIVE BOUTS + BOUQUETS.
Some bridesmaids carry rings instead of bouquets or wear their flowers in their hair. Some groomsmen have boutonnieres that are just greenery or feathers. Having out-of-the-box florals arrangements for the wedding party is one trend that has allowed for some really cool creativity and it has been awesome.
- SORORITY/FRATERNITY VIBES
While the trend to have everyone wear the same robe or drink from personalized glasses the morning before the ceremony is hardly new, it is still a favorite trend that I hope lasts for a little longer. From a photography perspective, it creates consistency, which makes for nice images.
