Exactly to years prior on August 11, 2018, Jessica and Som were strolling along Chicago’s Navy Pier. The Windy City is a frequent vacation destination for these two, but this year it would be a little different. It was on that trip, along that shoreline, that they became engaged.
On August 11, 2020, Lake Michigan was replaced with Lonely Lake, a body of water located on the property of Gunflint Lodge and Outfitters north along the Canadian border. Instead of Som asking “Will you marry me?” the questions were now asked by officiant Carly, who wonder if Jessica would take this man to be her lawfully wedded husband.
She, of course, did.
After their lakeside elopement, Som and Jessica (along with their children) explored this iconic area of the Gunflint Trail and allowed their true colors to shine just as bright as the August sun. She is a beam of pure energy herself—always smiling, always laughing, and so kind. Som is a little more reserved at first—very welcoming with his smile, but his witty nature only comes out once you get to know him a little better (and then he, too, is a hoot).
What was especially awesome about Jessica and Som’s elopement is that it was a total family affair. This was their summer getaway. It was a family vacation, wedding, and honeymoon all rolled into one! Everyone was all together, so it made perfect sense for wedding to be a part of it. Swimsuits were briefly exchanged for formalwear, and the next day consisted of a family horseback ride. Even the fur babies Moose and Josie were even there to be a part of the fun.
