Why you should have a wedding website, by Kayla Lee.

There’s a great chance you are reading this on your phone…and that right there should be sign enough as to why you need a wedding website.
We are a connected society. There is very little of our lives that are not online. We shop and social, find love and learn about life. Try as we might to disconnect, the way our world is built around the internet makes it very, very hard to do so.

Because of this, it might be in your interest to create a wedding website. When I say “wedding website,” I mean a place online where you can share vital information about your wedding with your guests. This isn’t like an e-invite or anything like that (you will still want to sent traditional save the dates and invitations); this is a digital way to inform your friends and family about your wedding day.

There are three major reasons why I recommend a wedding website:

1.) IT’S FREE

Literally the only expense for a basic wedding website is your time. There are places all over the web where you can set up a wedding site. The Knot and Zola are two places where you can easily create your own online space for your big day. You can also personalize it by adding a custom domain should you choose. When it comes to communications, we want to use as many channels as we can—this is one free way to speak to the masses with minimal effort on your end.

2.) IT WILL CUT DOWN ON REPEAT COMMUNICATION

The best way to answer a question is to do so before it is even asked. A wedding website allows you to answer the biggest questions about your wedding before guests have a chance to ask. Ceremony space, reception venue, hotel accommodations, and registry information are examples of some details you could (and should) include on your site.

3.) YOU CAN SHARE YOUR STORY

How many of your guest truly known you origin story? Do they know how you met? Who said “I love you” first? When you got engaged? How are you connected/related to the members of your wedding party? Who was the maid of honor? It might be nice for you to be able to share this information with your guests, and it is easy to do so with a wedding website. It creates a little background for your wedding, which is always nice.

If you want to take your wedding communications up a notch and feel like you are super-organized, consider creating a wedding website. Future you will appreciate it!

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
