By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth? It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go.
-Song of Solomon, 3:1-4.
Love is known for the ability to make its adherents feel all sorts of emotion. Joy. Warmth. Anger. Jealousy. You name it. In the name of these emotions, those impacted by passion turn to a variety of actions to deal. Some create romantic getaways, others call and email and text incessantly; a few (more than we expect) turn to Netflix and ice cream, while one or two turn to the streets of Jerusalem in the middle of the night in search of their beloved, warning the Daughters of Zion state that no one should stir up love until love is ready.
November 2017 brought about the time that was not only ready, but also perfect, for Ki and Travis. It was in this month that they became husband and wife, and it was just a little over a year later when this South Dakota couple celebrated their one year anniversary with a photography session along the Lake Superior shores on the grounds of the Glensheen Mansion.
It was Duluth romance at its finest. Crystal blue ice heaves jutted up against the rocks as flakes worthy of a snowglobe floated down upon this classic couple. The behemoth of a brick building was the perfect backdrop as these two celebrated the paper anniversary with letters for each other, a top tier recreated with their beautiful fall wedding colors, and a single orange rose. The classic romance of the setting was nothing compared to the couple them. Ki in a gorgeous winter white gown and Travis in his wedding tie, they not only complimented their destination setting, but each other so well.
That is a given of this couple in the mere moments I spent with them: Their love was ready. They needed not the warning as given to the Daughters of Zion in Song of Solomon, because Ki and Travis clearly have found one their soul loves, and it was beyond lovely along Lake Superior.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
