Headshots and branding sessions are two types of professional photography sessions that serve different purposes. While headshots are primarily used to capture an individual’s likeness, branding sessions are designed to capture a person’s personality and brand image.

What are headshots?

Headshots are typically simple, clean, and straightforward portraits of an individual’s face and shoulders. They are commonly used for professional purposes, such as corporate profiles, acting and modeling portfolios, and social media profiles. Headshots aim to capture an individual’s likeness in a way that presents them as professional, confident, and approachable. They are often taken in a studio setting with a plain background, with the focus solely on the individual’s facial features.

The main purpose of a headshot is to provide a professional and polished image of an individual. Headshots are typically used in situations where an individual needs to present themselves in a professional manner, such as job interviews or corporate profiles. The goal is to capture the individual’s likeness in a way that is visually appealing and conveys a sense of professionalism.

So then what are branding sessions?

Branding sessions, on the other hand, are focused on capturing an individual’s personal brand and unique style. These sessions often take place on-location and incorporate a variety of props, outfits, and settings to convey the individual’s personality and brand image. Branding sessions are typically used by entrepreneurs, influencers, and creatives who want to showcase their personal brand and create a strong online presence.

The main purpose of a branding session is to create a set of images that accurately represents an individual’s personal brand. These images can be used for a variety of purposes, such as website content, social media profiles, and marketing materials. The focus is on creating a cohesive set of images that convey the individual’s personality and brand image in a visually appealing way.

What’s the difference, then?

While headshots and branding sessions may share some similarities, they serve different purposes. Headshots are focused on capturing an individual’s likeness in a professional and polished manner, while branding sessions aim to capture an individual’s personal brand and unique style. When deciding which type of photography session is right for you, it’s important to consider your goals and how you want to present yourself to the world. Whether you need a professional headshot or a set of images to showcase your personal brand, professional photography can help you put your best foot forward.

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
