2020 was nothing like what many of us expected. I know, I know; that is the understatement of all understatements. I never, ever imagined that I would teach from home. It was a stretch of the imagination to think houses of worship would be closed. Weddings postponed? No way.
Yes, way.
In a way, however, I do have to believe it was part of a bigger plan from the universe. I don’t know of a single person that can’t say they learned something about themselves from this interruption in life the pandemic caused. I bet if you thought about it, you would see some of the good it did for you, too.
Personally, it made me reevaluate the trajectory of my life, and it forced me to sit down and determine what I really, truly want out of my next year, five years, ten years of life (spoiler: It wasn’t going to happen with the direction I was heading, so it forced be to make some necessary decisions). Heading into 2021, I never felt as resolved and ready for whatever comes next, and that is large in part due to the time granted to me in 2020.
As far as weddings go, I know so much looked so different. But this post should prove there were still incredible amounts of beauty in the unexpected. I spent this year with twenty-two of the sweetest couples who had to, despite everything going on, said yes to their love and had the greatest days. Some were smaller than expected, but that just meant more intimate. A few were rescheduled once or twice (or three) times, but were just as joyful and love-filled had they gone as planned on Date One.
Even more importantly, these couples will always have a bright memory from an otherwise somewhat bleak year. I hope these memories from last year can be a bit of a light for you, too.
