Thirteen is so often considered an unlucky number, but for Megan, March 13th has been a good day for the last seven years. It is her dating anniversary with Adam, her high school sweetheart, her love.
March 14th, however, now rivals that date, as that will be the anniversary of when Adam when from being her boyfriend and became her fiancé.
I met Adam via email and phone a few weeks back; he contacted me about a surprise proposal in Duluth–their whole crew was going to be in town for spring break, so to make it extra special, Adam wanted this plan in place. After a few emails and phone calls (and one nerve-wracking Sunday where Adam asked for Dad’s blessing at a BBQ), we settled on Brighton Beach at Kitchi Gammi Park as the would-be place to pop the question. There, with that blue body of water and the purple, pink, and greyish rocks that had been smoothed by time, Adam would ask Megan to be his forever girlfriend and become his wife.
As it always does, Lake Superior provided a beautiful background for their everlasting adoration. After a morning of sightseeing and visiting the historic Glensheen Mansion (a Duluth must-do!), Adam and Megan arrived at the park, bundled up for the cold, but ready to explore the grounds. It was filled with the typical Duluthians: The runners, The Dog Walkers, The Hammockers, and The Photographers–with one of them in place to capture this special moment. Down the hill from the rock warming shed that is iconic to this lakeside location, Adam bent down onto one knee, pulling a white box from his pocket. Megan, who insisted she knew this was going to happen but not when, beamed at the sight of the square-cut gem. A “Yes!” was followed by a long hug, and then an impromptu engagement session where they posed oh-so-easy, naturally moved by their dedication to one other.
And if their session was any indication…their future is looking full of love!
