Vacation, all I ever wanted…amirite?
Today I embark on another great adventure: Inspired Retreat by Amber Housley. Three nights and four days of refreshed growth. It is going to be amazing. I have some big plans in the works–including a product and design shop dropping in less than two weeks and an educational e-book that I hope to have to you by Quarter 2 of next year. These four days at this retreat will no doubt get me closer to those goals….just like how my Toyota will get me closer to this weekend. That’s right; I am roadtripping. If you know me, you know I believe the journey is just as critical as the destination, so I always like to make the most of that path. I have five favorite tips for road tripping:
- TRYING LOCAL/NEW COFFEE CHAINS
The last time I road tripped I found a lovely coffee chain called Biggby Coffee somewhere in Indiana, and it was awesome. We don’t have that in Minny, so it was a lovely treat. I can get Starbucks anywhere, so I use road trips as an excuse to trying brew something new.
- FIND THE LOCAL BREAKFAST DELICACY
Scrapple. Need I say more? I love learning where the locals eat their breakfast, and it is nice when road tripping because you’re not really restricted by time or distance; I am on my own schedule, so if I hear there is a must-try Eggs Benny, I can find it and get to it.
- BINGE A NEW PODCAST
I’m weird in the fact that I cannot be read to–audiobooks put me right to sleep. Podcasts, however, they psych me up. I have some of the best ideas when I travel because of them (tip: create a note in Notes that is just for podcast brainstorms that occur while listening. Pull over before typing, of course). This trip I am going to explore The Product Boss Podcast and see what nuggets and gems of information they have about selling physical items. I can’t wait to listen AND learn!
- TRY NEW HOTELS
Even if I am in the same city, I like to try different properties out when I return. My favorite brands are Kimpton and Hotel Indigo, and this go around I am going to experience Avid, which is another brand in the IHG Family. I love hotels (another way I am weird), so I like staying in new places to see what they are all about.
- TALKING TO STRANGERS
Yes, I buck the idea of stranger danger and I talk to people I don’t know. Nothing to dramatic–a server at the restaurant, the person filling up their car next to me, just those I encounter. I’m a journalist at heart; this is what I live for. I love getting to know people–even if it is just for a brief moment in time–because we are all threads in a bigger story. I (safely and with abundant caution) love it.
