Scrolling on Instagram. Move over baseball; America’s getting a new favorite pastime. We pretty much all do it: Scroll. scroll, scroll, double-tap. It’s kind of like the online version of Duck, Duck, Gray Duck.
Looking for new life in your feed? Here are five accounts I enjoy following for out to check out, too!
1.) NATHAN PYLE’S STRANGE PLANET (@NATHANPYLESTRANGEPLANET)
This guy draws the most amazing cartoons that tackle human existence from the point of view of aliens living it. Their technical manner of speech makes the everyday that much more extraordinary when looking at it through his frames. Come for the aliens; stay for the NYC Pigeon stories, that are literally wet-your-pants funny (don’t ask me how I know that).
2.) LIZ CLIMO (@LIZCLIMO)
This lovely lady is another animator (whose work has been found previously on The Simpsons). Her posts, which often come from her new adventure, The Little World of Liz Climo, are just too cute. It serves as a great example of how animals are really just like people in their actions, and her cartoons show that we all can get along, no matter our species.
3.) BILL OAKLEY (@THATBILLOAKLEY)
If I am going to recommend one person who worked on The Simpsons, I need to mention THE MAN, too. The brains behind this account was responsible for many, many of the epic episodes of my favorite television series. Nowadays, he uses his dry, deadpan humor to give serious reviews of fast food. Always an enjoyable and informative sixty seconds (example: His opinions about the Burger King Taco saves me a couple bucks and a major mess).
4.) NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC (@NATGEO)
Such breathtaking and heartbreaking photos can be found on this feed. This account concentrates the beauty and pain of out world concurrently into squares on a phone, and it is amazing and inspirational.
5.) EXPLORE MINNESOTA (@EXPLOREMINESOTA)
This is the official Instagram account of Minnesota’s tourism board, and it does a great job of featuring the best of the best of the Land of 10,000 lakes. So much food and outdoor fun, two things that are registered trademarks of Minnesotans (OK, not legally registered, but it should be). One of my favorite things about this feed is its color story as one scrolls…the blue and greens of summers gives way to golds and oranges of fall. Now that winter is here, snowy whites and grays of winter. It’s really pretty to swipe through.
