It was a chilly, chilly morning, a mere 45 degrees as Alisa was corseted up by her would-be mother-in-law in the cottage at Trellis Wedding Events in Stillwater, Minnesota. She rubbed away the already-forming goosebumps from her arm, gesturing lightly to the hooded shawl (the perfect match to her lace mermaid gown) that would protect her while outside during portraits with her love, Taylor.
But after one hug from her soon-to-be husband, that cover was not needed near as much as expected.
When I first met with Taylor and Alisa for breakfast at the Hen House Eatery, two things were clear: (1) The Hen House Eatery makes some massive breakfast sandwiches, and (2) These two really dig each other. A lot.
My first email from Alisa stressed this as well. They are spontaneous, in her words, and make moves quick–such as putting together a wedding in under two months. They are motivated by their emotions, following their gut about what is right, and making it happen.
That’s why after ten minutes at Trellis, they knew this was their venue. They knew that they had to have a fall wedding. And they knew they had to have each other, until death do them part.
It was a ceremony full sentimental touches; Alisa’s father escorted her to a teary-eyed Taylor, so expressly accepted his now wife at the altar that there was very little time to ask who was giving her to him. The couple shared glances all throughout that not only expressed their love for one another, but also their excitement to be husband and wife. With a rose ceremony, they exchanged their first gifts as a married couple–a single, red rose–as a reminder that with tenderness and care, love can continue to bloom, and even if there are no words, there is always that sign of those buds to always say “I love you.”
With that exchange of roses and a kiss, these two became one, and enjoyed one heck of an evening at the Lowell Inn of Stillwater, dancing and enjoying the beginnings of their forever.
