“There is a waterfall in every dream. Cool and crystal clear, it falls gently on the sleeper, cleansing the mind and soothing the soul.”

― Virginia Alison

It was a rare sunny, warm, legitimate summer day when I met Trinity at her mom at Hidden Falls Regional Park in St. Paul for a scheduled senior session. This summer hasn’t been the most summery; it seems like every day has had some chance of rain (and that chance was high). But the clouds parted, and the sun came out to rival Trinity’s bright demeanor. Her bubbly self bounced out of the automobile, clad in a flowy dress and a pair of converse, and I knew this was going to be a great hour.

And even with the herd of mosquitoes that came along, it was. (I meant it when I say herd…these were big mosquitoes that lumbered along like cattle while still sucking, in the literal and figurative sense.)

Despite the thickness of the unofficial Minnesota State bird and the rich, dense canopy above us, Trinity’s light and airy personality lifted the mood and brightened every frame. A total free-spirit, she smiled, she smiled, and she serious-faced like a pro (even though it was clear the smile and laughter suited her so well).

She also has a naturally adventurous side, which would come out in streaks; she was in no way adversed to climbing up onto the rocks besides the flowing water of the park’s namesake (even though I double- and triple-checked if she was OK with it). That boldness will no doubt serve her well as she moves into her future (which could include something in the medical field). If nothing else, she has rocking senior portraits before and next to a waterfall.

Friendly, happy, and humble…this is Trinity, Class of 2018:

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT KAYLA

At home on the road. Forever-focused on authenticity and the thrilling art of creation; always found in the moments that leave me breathless and in awe.

After fourteen years as a high school educator, I stepped back through a door I thought was closed. Journalism came back into my life. Armed with a Masters of Arts in Communication, I was again challenged and prepared to tell the stories that would become history, but with a twist: It is now your legacy of love that I document. The tension I seek is that from every tear, smile, laugh, and moment of love on your wedding day.
